On today’s Up To Speed, we honor all of the servicemembers and veterans who have made great sacrifices for our freedom and liberty. Host Raquel Wilson shared some of the many ways we’re honoring our veterans this week. If you noticed Raquel’s Verizon VALOR shirt, you can shop for it and other exciting, new Verizon-branded military apparel at Call For Fire.

Top military-friendly company

Here at Verizon we take great pride in supporting our troops and veterans, which is why it’s no surprise that for the past five years, we’ve been named a Top Military Friendly Company — and we’re excited to keep the momentum going! Just in time for National Veterans and Military Families Month, we’re proud to announce that Verizon has been ranked as the #2 Military Friendly Company for 2022. We’ve also received the 2021 HIRE Vets Medallion for the first time in our history and we’re back in the top 15 of the 2021 Best for Vets: Employer survey.

With over 8,000 veterans among our ranks, we are so proud to receive these awards and kick off our Veterans Day events.

Walk the walk.

Join us today at 1 PM ET/10 AM PT as we team up the Wounded Warrior Project and our Verizon Health & Wellness team for a virtual walk on Instagram Live at the handle @vteamwellness. As you walk, you will hear conversations on the role that wellness plays in military and corporate lifestyles.

And it doesn't have to end there. Honor our veterans in events all month long by giving back. Check out the Volunteer Portal for activities such as writing letters to senior veterans, providing engagement and emotional support to wounded warriors, offering network and mentoring support and so much more.

Supporting those who need it most.

Speaking of support, it’s so important that we take care of our disabled, senior and homeless veterans. Check out the NextGov Critical Update podcast, which showcases an innovation project that aims to support isolated veterans during the pandemic and improve diagnostic capabilities with the help of Verizon 5G.

Honoring Pat’s legacy.

Verizon Consumer Group is partnering with the Pat Tillman Foundation, an organization created to honor the NFL player and Afghanistan veteran who gave his life for his country. We will tell Pat’s story and show our support with a November 16 event in Austin, TX, showcasing a mural and donation to the foundation.

Tami Erwin hosts veterans conversation.

Verizon Business CEO Tami Erwin held a conversation on LinkedIn Live with veterans Shoshana Johnson, the first Black female POW, and Joel McCollough, who helped rescue her and free five others from captivity. They talked about how service is always a part of who they are and how important it is to support the military. If you'd like to learn more about Shoshana's story, check out her book I'm Still Standing: From Captive U.S. Soldier to Free Citizen--My Journey Home.

Deal for vets

Last but not least, don't forget our special promo for military and veteran families is running through November 17, so hurry and get our best pricing.

Thanks again from all of us to all of our veterans for your courageous service to our country.
