Happy Friday V Team, on today’s edition of Up To Speed live, Raquel Wilson was back with another episode of “3 Questions with…”. The series that gives our leaders a chance to share their important updates with all of us.
Today, we heard from Technology Ambassador Nicki Palmer who shared insight into her position, which was newly created back in April. She shared how her position focuses on integrating how Verizon works with Universities and educational institutions to make sure we’re aligned across VBG, Government Affairs, VCG, etc. And how she also works closely with Human Resources to find and attract top tech talent to Verizon. Nicki also shared her excitement regarding the recent completion of a program called TechFire. This program was designed to introduce students to some of the innovative technology that Verizon enables, fuel children's curiosity of technology and inspire them to pursue STEM-related studies.

Global Citizen
During our “3 Questions with…” segment, Nicki Palmer spoke about the importance of providing access and fostering our next generation, which is something our Verizon Innovative Learning schools are very familiar with. Earlier this week, we heard from Minu, a Verizon Innovative Learning student, who has taken her love of STEM into her college pursuits. There are more amazing stories like hers that you can see in our VZWeb VIL 10th anniversary article.
We shared a video featuring our Chief Marketing Officer Diego Scotti who explained how Verizon is showing up for the next generation and the importance of responsible business.
V Team, don’t forget, the 10th anniversary Global Citizen Festival is taking place in New York City’s Central Park this Saturday, September 24 – Minu will be taking the stage with Chief Corporate Social Responsibility leader, Rose Stuckey Kirk. They’ll also be on Good Morning America on Monday!
A special registration
Verizon received the International Standards for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) registration for best practices for its commercial drone program. This makes us the first corporate drone program to achieve the IS-BAO registration for its drone operations and only the second drone operator in the U.S. to receive the registration.
The independent audit validates the high safety and governance standards of Verizon’s drone program and provides the opportunity to expand future drone operations into more complex areas, such as flights beyond visual line of sight.
Verizon utilizes drones across several critical business functions, including extensive support of its network. Since the program’s inception in 2017, there have been more than 17,000 flights that total over 4,000 flight hours.
Mosquito Fire response
As you know here at Verizon, our commitment to public safety and serving our local communities is always top of mind. This includes Verizon Frontline which provides our network and technology to first responders and our Verizon Frontline Crisis Response Team who provides on-demand emergency assistance to help maintain mission-critical communications when they’re needed most.
We shared the story of V Teamer Donald DuMond whose son is a firefighter that provides emergency support to the Mosquito fire. Donald’s son was able to send a text to his father, and the only reason he was able to was because he had service thanks to our Verizon Frontline response.
It’s always great to see our emergency services in action.
Enterprise Intelligence
Verizon Business launched a new brand campaign called “Enterprise Intelligence” this week that shows how Verizon's suite of 5G solutions, 5G Edge and private networks are transforming the way many of the most innovative companies conduct business globally.
We shared a new TV ad showcasing the news.

Woman Business Collaborative Summit
Earlier this week, our Chief Executive Officer Hans Vestberg and Senior Vice President of Verizon Business Markets Aparna Khurjekar attended the Woman Business Collaborative where Hans was a recipient of the CEO Excellence in Gender Equity and Diversity Award for his leadership of Verizon and commitment to building diverse leadership.
Hans spoke about the role diversity plays here at Verizon and how we show up as a company of purpose while Aparna discussed how advancing diversity can be accomplished by collectively changing representation and inclusion as a whole.
Congratulations, Hans!
50 years of service
And congratulations are in store for another V Teamer Ken Matz who is a part of the Network Security group. Just yesterday Ken celebrated his 50th anniversary with the company. What a major accomplishment Ken!
