On today’s Up To Speed, Jeremy introduced Liam Mayclem, aka The Foodie Chap, who chatted with two “rock star” chefs, David Burke of David Burke Tavern and Orange Lawn Tennis Club in New Jersey, and Dominique Crenn of Atelier Crenn in San Francisco, both volunteering their time and energy to help feed hundreds of food-challenged people in their communities.

Even more impressive, these meals aren’t basic or lacking in taste or quality. The ingredients come from local farms and premium purveyors, and are prepared with the same love, thoughtfulness and sense of craft that both chefs bring to their work at their own highly rated restaurants.

Rethink Food is an organization started in New York City that utilizes food excess to feed those in need. Research has shown that about 40% of food goes to waste. ReThink uses that food that would otherwise end up in the garbage and feeds those who need it most. Since the start of the pandemic, they’ve rolled out new locations across the country in cities like San Francisco.

The chefs expressed their gratitude in partnering with Rethink and the Verizon Visa Card. With the exciting new no annual fee card, customers can earn Verizon Dollars including 4% on grocery and gas purchases, 3% on dining purchases including takeout, 2% on Verizon purchases and 1% on all other purchases. Verizon Dollarscan be redeemed for the best things at Verizon, including a new phone or tablet, and can also be put towards your wireless bill.

Clearly, this initiative is a win for all involved. Thanks to Chef Burke and Chef Crenn for making food that is truly good on so many levels!
