D-Link 2750B Wireless Gateway: Port Forwarding

Port forwarding configures a device (modem, router, or gateway) to allow a computer, application, or a service on the Internet to communicate with a specific computer on a private local area network (LAN).

Port forwarding sorts the data from the Internet source to the correct port on your network. Port forwarding is commonly used for online gaming, VPN setup, FTP setup, remote computer software, and Web server hosting.

Before you begin, please note:

  • These steps provide instructions on how to set up port forwarding, but you must know the application's port settings to enter in the configuration screens. This normally includes the protocol, port start, port end, and port map.
  • The configuration screens may vary slightly depending on when you purchased your modem or gateway and the version of firmware running on it.

To enable port-fowarding:
  1. Open a web browser, type into the address bar and press Enter.
  2. From the top navigation, click Settings.
  3. Enter your user name and password and click Continue. If you didn’t change your gateway user name when you configured your network, the default user name is admin. Your default gateway password is located on the sticker on the bottom of your gateway. The gateway home page displays.
  4. From the top navigation, click Firewall Settings.
  5. From the sub-menu, click Port Forwarding.
  6. Under the Local Host heading, click New Entry.
  7. Under Local Host, select Add from the drop-down menu.
  8. From the Protocol drop-down, select User Defined.
  9. From Create a Port Forward Rule page, enter the following information:
    • Service Name: Enter a name for your port-forwarding rule.
    • Protocol: Select TCP or UDP. If you need both, you will need to create a port-forward rule for each protocol.
    • Global Port(s): Enter a port number or range of ports.
    • ALG: Select FTP from the drop-down menu.
    • Local Port: Select Same as Global Ports or enter a single or range of ports.
  10. Click OK. A review screen displays basic information for your new port-forwarding rule.
  11. Review your port-forwarding rule and click OK. Detailed information about your port-forwarding rule appears.
  12. Review your port-forwarding rule and click Apply and activate your rule.
