Our Staycation Roadtrip continued today with a visit to Denver, CO, a city with 300 days of sun per year, and one of the only places where you can ski, fish and golf all on the same day. Denver was also one of our first 5G cities with download speeds exceeding 2 gigabits per second.

Local V Teamer Bryan Gernes

To help us learn more about the Mile High City, we spoke with Bryan Gernes, District Manager, Indirect and Business Channel. Bryan is a military vet who has been with the V Team for almost 15 years.

Through the second quarter of 2020, Bryan and his team have completed 85 hours of volunteer work, much of it together, including military-focused givebacks like writing letters of gratitude to deployed soldiers or representing Verizon at Carry The Load events.

“It makes our team feel proud,” said Bryan. “Especially for me, being previously in the military, and now having my son in the Air Force. Being able to support him through this and all he’s gone through, I couldn’t be more proud of my team and my family.”

As for Denver must-see sites, Bryan recommends catching an outdoor show at the Red Rocks amphitheater or spending time in the mountains, hiking, fishing or paddleboarding.

Call Filter

By the way, if you don't want to be distracted from your summertime adventures, Andy reminded us that Verizon has helped customers avoid more than 6 billion spam calls. We also protect more than 75 million consumer, business and prepaid wireless lines with our free Call Filter app and authenticate billions of calls each month between more than a dozen providers using STIR/SHAKEN technology.

Local small business: Adelitas Cocina y Catina

In our small business spotlight, we’re catching up with the good folks at Adelitas, one of the best traditional Mexican restaurants in all of Colorado. We thought this past Taco Tuesday was a great opportunity to pay it forward by way of our Verizon Visa Credit Card. Lunch was on us for many of Adelitas loyal customers. Our thanks to Adelitas’ Katrina and Nathan.

Local musical artist: Esme Patterson

Let’s round out this road trip with some soulful, dream rock from a local Denver artist. Esme Patterson is a songwriter, singer, thinker and explorer. She began as a member of the Denver Folk Pop septet, Paper Bird, and has written two records as a solo act including All Princes, I and her second and most recent release, Woman to Woman, which is a concept album of responses from female characters in a broad range of well-known love songs.
