Device return instructions

Returning a device to Verizon Wireless only takes a few minutes.

  • This page will take you through the steps needed, which are especially important for Apple devices with iOS 7 or newer.
  • You must turn off Find My iPhone before sending it back.
  • We’ll show you how, even if you don’t have the device anymore–we’ll show you hot to erase your device too.

Device return requirements

The device must be in good working condition and must meet the following requirements or it could be rejected and returned to you. Each returned device must:

  • Have a working battery*
  • Be able to power on and off*
  • Have an intact, functioning LCD screen and glass with no cracks or breaks
  • Have intact charging ports and aux/headphone jacks (not broken or missing)
  • Connecting ports must be free of visible corrosion and water damage

*Note: Does not apply to Certified Like New Replacement devices.

Before you return your iPhone

Turn off Find My iPhone:

Make sure your iPhone is connected to a cellular network or Wi-Fi.

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Scroll up to iCloud.
  3. Tap iCloud.
  4. Scroll up to Find My iPhone.
  5. Tap Find My iPhone.
  6. Tap or slide the Find My iPhone switch to the Off position.
  7. Enter your Apple ID password in the pop-up window, and tap Turn Off.

You've successfully turned off Find My iPhone.

If you don't have your phone:

Apple's support website has instructions for turning off Find My iPhone without the device. Please refer to "Remove an iOS device or Mac on which you can’t turn off Find My iPhone".

Erasing content and settings on your iPhone:

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll down and tap Reset.
  4. Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
  5. Enter passcode if required.
  6. Tap Erase iPhone (or iPad).

You've successfully erased your Apple device.

Before you return your Android device

You must remove your Google account before returning your device.

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap Accounts.
  3. Tap Google.
  4. Tap the Menu icon in the upper right.
  5. Tap Remove account.

You've successfully removed your Google account.

It's also a good idea to do a Factory data reset on your device, it's just a few steps:

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap Backup and reset.
  3. Tap Factory data reset.
  4. Enter your passcode if required.
  5. Tap RESET PHONE.

You've successfully reset your device.

Returning your old device

Returning your old device:

  1. Prepare your device to be returned:
    • Turn your device off
    • Make sure the battery is included*
    • Remove and keep any accessories such as chargers, SIM and SD cards

      *Note: If you're returning a device in order to receive a Certified Like New Replacement, and your original device has a removable battery, please keep it and do not send it back to Verizon. You'll need it for your replacement device.
  2. Use the return materials provided to package your device, including the pre-paid shipping label. Keep a record of your tracking number for your reference.
  3. Drop it off at your post office or hand it to your mail carrier.

Why was my device sent back?

If your device was sent back to you, it may have been for one of the following reasons:

  • Find My iPhone not turned off
  • Not in good working condition
  • Received too late
  • Incorrect device

Each returned device will come with an explanation why the device was returned.
