We are making it easier for Pixel users to stay safe and get help in case of an emergency.

Launched exclusively on Pixel 4 devices in October 2019, starting in June 2020 Google's Personal Safety app will be available on all Pixel devices if users choose to enable it. It provides in-context features like emergency status sharing, car crash detection, safety checks, and crisis alerts, which help users get the best help they can in case of an emergency.

  • Personal Safety app now available for all Pixel devices
  • App feature changes:
    • Emergency sharing now shares live location with emergency contacts
    • Safety check - Pixel will check in on your safety
    • Crisis alerts - Pixel will notify you about natural disasters and safety alerts based on your location
    • Car crash detection now supports Pixel 3 and 4

Emergency Sharing

Personal Safety app users can manage their emergency contacts (synced to their Google account) in the app and easily send alerts to emergency contacts in the event of an emergency. In June 2020, emergency sharing now shares their continuous, real-time location.

Safety Check

Personal Safety app users can now ask their Pixel to check in on their safety at a future time using the new safety check feature. When their phone checks in on them, they can easily start an emergency share to notify their emergency contacts or mark themselves as safe. If they are unresponsive, emergency sharing starts automatically.

Crisis alerts

Personal Safety app users can now get notifications about safety hazards like natural disasters affecting their area using the new crisis alerts feature. It provides helpful information such as affected areas and updated guidance from local authorities.

Car crash detection

Today, this feature is already available on Pixel 4s in the US, UK, and AU with primary device language set to English for users who opt-in. In June 2020, this feature will be newly available to Pixel 3 users (Pixel 3a is not supported) in the same countries and languages.
