Turn Background App Refresh On / Off

Managing background app refresh on your Apple® iPhone® controls how apps update content when not in use. This setting can help save battery life and reduce cellular data usage.

Before you begin

When Background App Refresh is turned on, apps that take advantage of this feature can refresh themselves in the background. For additional info, refer to this Apple support page on multitasking and background app refresh.
When low-power mode is on, the background app refresh is disabled.

Steps

  1. Open the
    Settings app
    .
  2. Tap
    General
    .
  3. Tap
    Background App Refresh
     twice then select one of the following:
    • Off
    • Wi-Fi
    • Wi-Fi and Cellular Data
