How to Transfer Content Between Your Computer and Your Android™ Smartphone
(Video Length- 3:58 )
This video will give you the general steps to move content between your computer and an Android smartphone. If you need specific steps for your device, check out our "Transfer Wizard" at: verizonwireless.com/support/transfer-contacts-and-media/
Just select your device; then select Computer to get started.
Let's take a look at an example:
First, connect your smartphone to your computer using a USB cable. Once plugged in, make sure the phone is set up to transfer media...and not just in charging mode.
The easiest way to determine this is to drag down from the notification bar at the top of your Home screen. An Android icon appears with a message that tells you the connection setup type. For example, connected for charging or media transfer. Select the available media option.
Whether you are transferring files to or from your smartphone, the first steps are usually the same. You'll need to find the folders where the content is currently located and decide where you want to move it. Let's start by moving a photo from your computer to your phone.
On your computer, open the folder where you store your photos. Now we'll take that file and move it to your smartphone.
Now, to move that file to from your PC to your device, open a new window using File Explorer, and navigate to your device from the list of drives on the left side menu.
Typically, it will appear as the phone model number, as shown.
Open the folder labeled Phone, or Internal Storage.
If a SD Card is inserted, you can also move files there by opening the Card or SD Card Folder. In this example, we'll move files to the phone's Internal Storage.
Select the window that contains your photos and proceed to drag and drop the photo from the computer to the device.
Now that we know how to transfer from your computer to your device, we'll show you how to transfer from a device to the computer!
Steps listed will refer to default folders, a third-party application may store content in other folders.
You may also see other folders for items like screenshots, downloads or photos you received as picture messages.
It's no surprise that music will be found under the Music folder on your phone.
Photos and Videos you take with your device will typically be found by opening the DCIM folder, then Camera.
Now, let's try moving a picture to the computer.
Just like before, use File Explorer on your computer to locate your device under the listed drives and open the folder where your photo is saved.
Now you can drag and drop the file from the device to the computer.
If you don't use a computer for storing files, we have a solution for that as well.
