Happy Friday! On today’s Up To Speed Live host Diana Alvear shared the following updates:

Up To Speed week in review

Monday: We showed you all the ways the benefits of the Verizon Visa card are getting better.

Tuesday: We introduced you to THOR, our newest teammate in keeping you connected during crises and disasters. He’s a superhero!

Wednesday: We celebrated Verizon’s 21st birthday!

Thursday: We reminded you why it’s a good idea to take time off from work, and how our products make vacation a lot more enjoyable.

Storm update

Tropical Storm Elsa is churning toward Cuba, and will eventually threaten the Florida gulf coast. Our network teams are hard at work to keep you connected. Make sure you visit our Emergency Resource Center for some tips on protecting yourself, your families and your tech.

Offering support in Surfside

We’d also like to recognize our Verizon response team that has been on the ground at the Surfside condo collapse, providing connectivity and network assistance to first responders and families of those affected. We know how vital it is to keep people connected during a crisis and we are heartbroken for everyone involved.

Blocking robocalls

We have now protected over 78 million Verizon customers from over 13 billion unwanted calls! That is quite impressive. One important piece of our work to combat these pesky calls is the adoption of STIR/SHAKEN which is an industry-wide effort to make sure your call is the number on your caller ID and not spoofed. Earlier this week, we confirmed with the FCC that we have met the industry mandate to sign calls with STIR/SHAKEN. In fact, we completed our wireless network upgrade to STIR/SHAKEN in March of 2019, more than two years ahead of the deadline, and our wireless network is 100% compliant. We were also the first wireless carrier to exchange STIR/SHAKEN traffic with other carriers, way back in August of 2019. Now that’s industry leadership on behalf of our customers!

Pokemon GO

This week, Verizon literally opened its doors to Pokémon GO fans like never before. To help celebrate Pokémon GO’s fifth anniversary, Verizon is turning thousands of participating stores nationwide into Pokémon GO Gyms.

We’re inviting Pokémon GO players, also known as Trainers, to stop by select retail locations for chances to catch legendary Pokémon, unlock exclusive in-game content, and attend special events — including limited-edition giveaways and raids.

So, Trainers, visit a nearby Verizon retail location! Using the Pokémon GO app, check to see if it’s a Pokémon Gym or a PokéStop. If it is, Trainers can speak with our V Team reps to learn where to scan a QR code with their phone’s camera, and follow on-screen instructions to get in on the fun. Trainers don’t even need to be Verizon customers to participate!

Get to a store and join the fun! Follow Verizon on Twitter as we drop more information about raids, competitions and more.
