On today’s Up To Speed Live, host Andy Choi welcomed Chief Human Resources Officer Christy Pambianchi back to the show. She shared the following updates:
Enjoy your time off
Christy returned from a recent vacation and urges those who haven’t used vacation days to consider doing so. It’s essential to care for yourself. And we shouldn’t feel guilty. The time away can actually produce some of the best ideas for work.
Support for the Asian American and Pacific Islander community
After last week’s tragic events in Atlanta, Christy was moved to see our V Teamers come together to declare that violence and discrimination will not be tolerated.
That’s why we created our Racial Justice Action plan to push for progress within our walls and beyond. We are in the process of adding new resources curated by our PACE Employee Resource Group to our Race and Social Justice Toolkit. And we are partnering with PACE to launch a new round of Bystander Intervention training, so we have the tools and tactics to step up when we see people being harassed. We also developed small group sessions with EAP to ensure our employees have a private, safe place to share their thoughts.
As Hans shared last week, we contributed $10 million in ad inventory and financial assistance to groups on the front lines of protecting the rights and well-being of the Asian community.
Christy shared her support for her Asian colleagues. “I just want to say that we stand by you and with you, and we are committed to building an equitable future where hate has no place in society. There’s more work to be done, but we will do it together.”
Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index (CEI)
Speaking of stepping up for all V Teamers, the Human Rights Campaign recently gave Verizon a 100% rating on their Corporate Equality Index (CEI). We are proud to foster an inclusive culture where people are empowered to bring their authentic selves to work and thrive personally and professionally.
The HRC’s Corporate Equality Index is a benchmarking tool to evaluate our benefits, policies and culture to see which companies are the “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.” Even more impressive, this is the sixth time we have received a perfect score!
We want to be the best place to work for all kinds of people, and we will strive to maintain that perfect score because it represents who we are as a company and our commitment to LGBTQ V Teamers. Christy also gave a shout-out to Jeremy Washburn and Allia McLeod. They were selected as OUTstanding LGBTQ Role Models by Yahoo Finance. We are so lucky to have exceptional role models at Verizon who are leading the way forward.
Gallup Exceptional Workplace Award
Christy also shared that Verizon was awarded the 2021 Gallup Exceptional Workplace Award. This global award is a tremendous honor, presented only to organizations that meet the highest standards of excellence. It puts us among the most elite organizations and reflects how we engage and support our V Team.
To get there, we had to satisfy rigorous criteria, including a participation rate of 80% or higher on our VZPulse+ survey. We also had to demonstrate how employee engagement translates directly to business outcomes. It’s a proud moment that reflects our progress in delivering on our 2.0 vision and realizing our North Star – to be the best place to work.
To remain an industry leader, we must continue to foster an environment where employees feel valued and supported and where others aspire to work, contribute and grow. With the launch of Work Forward and Talent GPS coming soon, we will continue to reimagine the possibilities for our future and how we can go from great to fantastic as an organization.
Andy presented the Gallup award to Christy who accepted on behalf of the V Team, saying “You make Verizon a great place to work, and you are the reason we received this honor from Gallup. I am proud of where we are today but even more excited about what’s to come because we always move Forward Together.”
Christy will be back next month to share more about Talent GPS and offer an update on Work Forward.

As we wrap up Women’s History Month, #Next20 will look toward empowering women through financial security.
