TracFone's Commitment to an Open Internet

This web page contains important information about the terms, network performance, and management of TracFone's wireless broadband Internet access services and is intended to help you to make informed choices about the purchase and use of TracFone's services. Broadband Internet access services provide our customers with the ability to transmit and receive data from all or substantially all points on the Internet while using data networks.

The information provided relates to your experience while using Verizon data networks and may not describe the terms, performance, or management you may experience while using extended coverage networks or roaming on non-Verizon affiliated networks.

For questions that are not answered on this page, customers may chat with us at any time, or reach out via any of the methods listed on our customer service contacts listed below.

TracFone is Committed to an open internet.

TracFone Wireless provides Broadband Internet Access Services to prepaid wireless mobile customers. The majority of our customers' services are provided over Verizon's network.

We also contract with other wireless carriers for provisioning services to our customers where either Verizon's services are limited or to customers with handsets incompatible with Verizon's network.

    Network management

FULL ACCESS - We will not block any legal internet content, applications, or services based on their source or content.

FAIR HANDLING OF TRAFFIC - We will not accept payments from any company to deliver its traffic faster or sooner than other traffic on our consumer broadband service, nor will we deliver our affiliates' internet traffic faster or sooner than third parties'. We will not prioritize traffic in a way that harms competition or consumers.

FULL SPEED - With limited exception to the GoSmart service, we will not throttle or slow down any internet traffic based on its source or content. With resepect to GoSmart Mobile, we make clear to prospective customers that certain traffic is prioritized, providing a value service to limited customers seeking a specific service. Additional information on the GoSmart Mobile service is available at https://www.gosmartmobile.com/wps/portal/home/shop/plans/!ut/p/a1/04_Sj9CPykssy0xPLMnMz0vMAfGjzOINAww9PZy9DbzdXQMNDByNfV3dPUw8vSyNDfXD9aPwKfENMiagwMcAqsAAB3A00C_Izg4CAE74Wf8!/dl5/d5/L2dBISEvZ0FBIS9nQSEh/.

FULL INFORMATION - We will describe our Internet access services and our plans in plain language so customers can make informed choices.

    Network Performance

Based on Verizon internal testing and testing commissioned from third-party vendors, TracFone expects customers should experience download speeds ranging from 90-170Mbps and upload speeds of 15-30 Mbps on the 5GUW network, and download speeds between 9-56Mbps and upload speeds of 2-13Mbps on the 5G or 4G networks, unless such speeds are otherwise managed through video optimization practices described below or otherwise specified in any specific plan documentation. Any mobile speed ranges are based on the approximate 25th and 75th percentiles of network tests.

The majority of TracFone services are provided on the Verizon network. Verizon has used sound engineering principles in the design and operation of its broadband network to ensure a good user experience for all customers. An individual user's experience will vary depending upon many factors, including the network the customer is using and the device in use. Verizon has implemented optimization technologies across its 5G and 4G LTE networks to transmit data files in a more efficient manner to allow available network capacity to benefit the greatest number of users. These techniques include video caching and sizing video files more appropriately for mobile devices. The optimization process is agnostic as to the content itself and to the website that provides it. While Verizon invests much effort to avoid changing text, image, and video files in the optimization process and while any change to the file is likely to be indiscernible, the optimization process may minimally impact the appearance of the file as displayed on a customer's device.

In addition, in order to optimize customers' video viewing experiences on their devices over the network while ensuring a high quality experience for other users of the network, the Verizon network seeks to transmit video downloads or streams to smartphones at 480p, unless a different video resolution is disclosed in the description of a particular plan. Video services that have not been optimized for TracFone devices may be delivered at a higher resolution but at a slower delivery speed to the customer’s device. This practice does not make any distinction based on the content of the video or the source website. To achieve this optimization, Verizon limits the throughput speeds of such video downloads or streams over the 4G LTE networks (which may be below the 9-56 Mbps 4G LTE download speeds typically provided). This practice results in the video provider's content server sending the appropriate resolution video file for that speed, if available.

For coverage information, see the Verizon Wireless Coverage Locator.

With respect to latency for use of real-time data applications, Verizon Wireless expects network to device (round-trip) latency to be less than 30 ms on its 5G Ultra Wideband network, less than 100 ms on its 5G and 4G LTE networks (mobile and LTE Home Internet).

You must be using an approved, network compatible device and be within the Verizon coverage area to access the Verizon network. Whether you experience these speeds depends on many factors, including among others, the type of device, the programs running on the device, your location, and how many other customers are attempting to use the same spectrum resources (including both mobile broadband internet access and other non-broadband internet access services that share the network, such as Private Network Traffic Management, HD Voice, Push to Talk Plus, and MDM). For information on the Verizon network and testing of the network, visit the Verizon network awards page.

If you are not using an approved, Verizon network compatible device, you may be receiving services from another one of our network partners in which case, the service performance metrics described herein may not be applicable.

    Why services may vary.

An individual user's experience will vary depending upon many factors, including the network (5G, 4G LTE) the customer is using and the device in use. On certain plans, we may prioritize your data behind other traffic. If the cell site you are connected to begins experiencing high demand during the duration of your session, your data speeds may be slower than the other traffic's. Once the demand on the site lessens, or if you connect to a different site not experiencing high demand, your speed will return to normal.
