What is Safety Mode?

Who is eligible for Safety Mode, and how much does it cost?
Safety Mode is available for no additional charge on:
- Shared Data Plan – 5GB*
- Shared Data Plan – 10GB*
- The new Verizon Plan (shared data plans, e.g., S, M, L)*
Safety Mode is automatically enabled on the Just Kids* plan.
No other plans are eligible for Safety Mode at this time.

How can I avoid overage charges with Safety Mode?
If your plan has a data allowance, enabling Safety Mode for your account will prevent overage fees. When your data allowance is up for the month, you will still have access to reduced speed data. You will also have the option to buy a Data Boost or to change to a different plan, all through the My Verizon app.

What data speeds can I expect while in Safety Mode?
While in Safety Mode, you'll have reduced speeds of 128 Kbps. Video and audio streaming may be impacted while in Safety Mode.

How do I turn Safety Mode on and off?
With these plans, you can turn Safety Mode on and off in My Verizon:
- Shared Data Plan – 5GB*
- Shared Data Plan – 10GB*
- The new Verizon Plan (shared data plans, e.g., S, M, L)*
Business accounts: If you have an eligible plan, you can turn Safety Mode on and off through My Business Account.
Once you opt in, you'll automatically go into Safety Mode any month you run out of data. You won't incur overages unless you disable Safety Mode.
If you turn Safety Mode off, you'll be charged for overages if you run out of data.
Note: With the Just Kids* plan: Safety Mode is enabled and can't be turned off.
