Release Date: October 31, 2013
Note: KitKat version isn't currently available on all devices.
KitKat (Android 4.4 release) is a polished and immersive experience, centering on new visual enhancements and Google™ search capabilities. KitKat is a robust and refined upgrade in comparison to its predecessor, Jelly Bean. Its key features include a transparent notification bar and Immersive mode to fully utilize the screen on your device. Plus, it offers a smarter Phone app and new voice-activated control features to get important things done without touching the screen.
The steps to find the current OS version vary by device. Below are general instructions that work for most Android devices. For detailed instructions about a specific device, please check the device's user guide.
To check your current Android OS version:
- Open your device's Settings.
- Tap the About Phone or About Device option.
- Tap Android Version to display your version information.
Key Features
See your entire wallpaper with KitKat's transparent status and button bars. KitKat also lets your music, movies and games take over the entire screen - no more notification bar, navigation buttons or battery icon. While listening to music you'll now see full-screen album or movie art on your device’s lock screen. Media controls are easily accessible from the lock screen to play, pause or skip to a specific moment.
Contacts you use the most appear at the top of KitKat's improved Phone app. KitKat also offers a smarter caller ID feature. So when you receive a call from a number that isn't a contact, KitKat will use Google Maps™ to identify the caller and display an image, if available.
