This week’s My Why episode highlights Verizon Business Group’s Shalana Robbins, a Technical Solutions Director for Business Government Customer Operations (BGCO) in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Sharing her journey through Verizon’s Good mailbox, Shalana said she’s proud to be the BGCO Salt Lake City office’s first woman director, as well as that branch’s first woman director of color. She commended her supervisor, Monica Hammond, and teammate, Larry Hollingsworth, for reinforcing Verizon’s culture of diversity and inclusion, adding, “You can achieve anything that you set your mind to, if you have the right kind of advocates, and you put the work in.”
Through Verizon and in her spare time, she’s constantly inspired to help people, specifically veterans. There’s a reason it’s personal: Her father, her husband, and her grandfather all served in the Air Force. “They’ve sacrificed a lot for our freedoms, and Verizon is a huge veteran employer,” added Shalana, echoing Verizon’s accomplishments of employing more than 10,000 veterans and being named the No. 1 Military-Friendly Company, three years running. “It just makes me proud, all the way across the board.”
