Don't use outside!

1 out of 5 rating

Matt23C · 2 months ago

Portable speaker that can't handle the heat. Got this as a bday gift and after a year it died. Found out it was probably because I was using it outside while in my pool when it was hot out and it overheated thus screwing up the speaker. Do not buy!

The most finicky speaker I ever had. Won't connect via Google Home, Bluetooth, or the JBL app. Super frustrated. Have never been able to play any audio from it.

Disappointing in some ways

3 out of 5 rating

RobP · 6 months ago

The sound quality of this device is terrific. What is disappointing is that you cannot just link the device via bluetooth to your computer or phone. You have to download Google Home and Google Assistant to make it work. And, then you have to figure out whether you want Google Assistant listening to you. I can't help but feel that Harman is trying to steer you to Google products. I wish they made a great speaker that works independently.

Great sound

5 out of 5 rating

James · 6 months ago

Yes, I'd recommend this product.

Just bought the JBL Link Portable Smart speaker a couple of weeks ago. To my surprise, it has great sound. This may be because JBL is owned by Harman Kardon also know for good speakers. Being a smart speaker means you can use voice commands to tell it what to play, change volume, and to pause and play. The only con, it was difficult to setup. This is because you have to have a Google Home account to complete setup. Once setup, the speaker will link to just about anything.

Failed Within a Month

This speaker was great while it lasted, but became unusable within a month of purchase. Sound quality exceeded expectations, but within a month of purchase, it began emitting crackling sounds and little else.

Customer Support - 7 months ago

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. The crackling noise could be caused by wireless interference or low battery. Please relocate the speaker away from devices with strong wireless signals like a home router modem and have it fully charged. If you need more help, please reach out to our Customer Support at https://support.jbl.com/us/en/

Worst Speaker

1 out of 5 rating

byeJBLfelicia · 8 months ago

This is without a doubt the worst speaker I have ever purchased. Troubles came right away, wouldn't stay connected, would only turn on while docked. Called for a warranty replacement, the one I was sent doesn't power on. At all, even while docked! This speaker was a dud just a few months after ownership. It should be extremely telling that they don't even sell this speaker anymore. Shame on you JBL.

Useless because of terrible battery life

bigste · 8 months ago

If I charge it all day, I'll get maybe 45 minutes of play time. It won't even play and charge at the same time. Basically an expensive paper weight.

2 questions: 1. can i link 2 or more speakers using apple Airplay 2 with Apple TV 4K.  2. is this a new product or is it being discontinued.  I need a portable apple airplay2 speakers that can link 2 or more speakers

Customer Support - 6 months

You could stream audio from your Apple TV though Airplay 2. You have to add the speakers in one room in the Apple Home app so they could play the same content at the same time. Our JBL Link Portable is a current model and stocks will arrive soon.

The four lights on front now suddenly flash, when it stops music. It flashes and stops music playing about every 5 minutes. Hard reset does not help. After hard reset, Google Home prompts to update firmware but it never installs.

How do I connect multiple Link Portable speakers to play the same music simultaneously (not stereo) via Bluetooth? It will only play on one speaker - when I add the 2nd speaker, the one playing disconnects

Leon at Customer Service - 10 months

Please download the Google Home app and create a speaker group, this will make you play the same music with all the speakers that are in the group. Make sure that the speakers are all connected to the same wifi network.

I want to use this speaker as a next room extension to my home stereo with wired speakers. My receiver has Airplay 2. I play my Apple Music playlist from my iPad and iPhone and want to use that- no other software to extend the sound.

Leon at Customer Service - 11 months

You may try grouping your JBL Link Portable and your Receiver via the Home app, so you can extend the music you're playing to your speakers.
