Your next cell phone purchase is important. Learn how to buy a new phone and the questions you should ask to find the perfect one for you.
When it’s time to upgrade or purchase a new phone, it’s a good idea to do your research before making your decision. But what kind of questions do you need to ask? These tips will help you choose the right phone for your needs.
Smartphone or basic cell phone?
First, decide if you want a basic cell phone or a smartphone. While smartphones tend to be more expensive, they also have more advanced features and capabilities. Ask yourself about the types of things you’ll be doing with your new cell phone.
- Do you need something just for calling and texting? Then a basic flip phone such as the Nokia 2720 V Flip might be the route to go.
- If you want to check your email, use social media and browse the web occasionally, then a basic smartphone such as the Orbic Myra 5G UW may be enough to meet your needs.
- If you want to take exceptional photos, use productivity and gaming apps, surf the Internet frequently and watch videos, then a smartphone such as the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G would be your best bet.
How will you be using your new cell phone?
Narrow your search by deciding which features are the most important to you—think about the things you’ll be doing with your new cell phone.
Maybe you take a ton of pictures—of the kids or with your friends. If that’s the case, look for devices with superior camera technology. The Samsung Galaxy S®5 is equipped with a 16-megapixel camera and tons of camera settings.
App fanatics should consider memory. Apps take up space, so if you’re going to download a decent amount of them, you’ll need a phone that can handle it. The Samsung Galaxy Note5 has 32 to 64 GB of internal memory (based on which model you choose), while the LG G3 also has 32 GB of internal memory, plus support for even more memory via an external microSD card—more than 100 GB.
Does the phone fit your life?
In addition to the things you’ll be doing on your phone, think about your typical day.
If you spend a lot of time away from your home or traveling, an extra-long battery life will be invaluable. The Droid Turbo 2 by motorola and the Droid Maxx 2 have a battery that lasts up to 48 hours.
It’s also important to consider the design of the phone and how that will work with your everyday life. A smaller and more compact phone, such as the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime™, will be easy to toss into your pocket or small purse—especially convenient if you’re always juggling bags, coffee mugs, water bottles and keys.
Outdoorsy types—or parents with curious tots—should check out rugged options that can handle your rugged activities. The Brigadier™ by Kyocera is a rugged smartphone that can withstand water immersion, dust and drops. The Samsung Convoy™ 3 is a basic phone with Push to Talk capabilities that’s built to survive.
When you’re looking for a new phone, make sure you do your research first. The more research you do, the better your new phone will fit your needs. And with all of the options available at Verizon, you’re sure to find the perfect fit.
