The network plays two fundamental roles in an organization's AI strategy: as the critical delivery infrastructure and as an automation and optimization engine. The 5 key workloads of AI represent the complete end-to-end lifecycle of developing, deploying, and maintaining an AI or Machine Learning (ML) model. 1) Data preparation to prepare raw data into a clean, structured, and usable format for the model to use. 2) Model training to  iteratively adjust the model's internal parameters to minimize error and maximize accuracy. 3) Hyperparameter tuning and model evaluation to find the optimal settings (hyperparameters) for the model and to rigorously test its performance, robustness, and fairness. 4) Inference, or prediction, To use the trained model to make real-time decisions, predictions, or content generation based on live data input. 5) Model deployment and monitoring to integrate the model into a production environment and ensure it maintains its performance over time.

AI network infrastructure is a specialized, high-performance communication fabric that connects compute and storage components for building, training and deploying AI and ML models at scale.

A programmable network is a customizable network infrastructure that can be created, controlled, and managed through software or APIs, rather than relying solely on proprietary, fixed-function hardware. Customers can dynamically configure, manage and optimize their network resources in real-time. 

This is a major shift from traditional networks, which required manual, device-by-device configuration and rigid, hardware-centric operations.

Customers face varied work loads when utilizing AI Large Language Training models or SaaS applications.   Customers may need to vary bandwidth across the network as well as periodically needing to change end points while standing up toolsets and then need to redeploy bandwidth to other partners or connections as they run.

While a specific timeline for the full scope of Verizon’s AI expansion is not publicly available, we are actively investing in several key areas to accelerate growth. Verizon announced our partnership with NVIDIA to reimagine how GPU-based edge platforms can be integrated into Verizon’s 5G private networks. Verizon also has a new strategic partnership with Vultr, a leading global GPU-as-a-Service and cloud computing provider, that will further expand our AI support capabilities and reach.
