Connected device plans - data for non-phone devices FAQs

Connected device plans are monthly data plans for your non-phone devices (i.e., mobile hotspot devices*, USB modems, tablets, laptops, smartwatches, security cameras, in-car Wi-Fi, and more).

You can get a connected device plan(s) if your Verizon mobile account has either:

• No phone plans - you'll pay the "standalone" plan price
  
  Exception: To get our Essential or Plus plans for mobile hotspot devices and USB Modems your account must have at least one Unlimited phone plan that can be mixed and matched.
• At least one Unlimited mobile phone plan.

If you have a shared data plan, you don't need a separate plan for your non-phone device because the device can share your monthly plan’s data. A $10/month line access fee is charged for each connected device sharing your monthly data.

Note: Shared data plans are no longer available to be added to accounts.

Yes. If you run out of Mobile Hotspot data, you can add a Data Boost.

• Unlimited, Unlimited Plus plans for connected devices: Each Data Boost gives an extra 5 GB of 4G LTE / 5G Nationwide data for Mobile Hotspot use.
• Essential, Plus, Pro and Premium plans for mobile hotspot devices: Each Data Boost gives an extra 5 GB of 4G LTE / 5G Nationwide or 5G Ultra Wideband data for Mobile Hotspot use.

Each Data Boost is $35 (tax may apply). You can add up to 5 Data Boosts per line, per bill cycle through Customer Service or My Verizon.

You can add up to 10 smartphones or basic phones to your Verizon mobile account with any plan that allows for multiple lines of service. And you can have up to 30 total devices per account.

That means if you have 10 phone lines, you can have up to 20 connected devices (e.g., tablet, smartwatch, streaming camera, etc.).

Note:

• If you have an Unlimited monthly phone plan, each connected device must have its own data plan.
• If you have a shared data* monthly phone plan, the connected devices can share that data.

*Shared data plans are no longer available to add to your account.

Connected device plan monthly cost depends on:

• The connected device type (e.g, laptop, mobile hotspot device, smartwatch, etc.).
• Whether or not you already have any phones on an Unlimited plan  (e.g., 5G Get More, 5G Do More, 5G Play More, etc.).
• How many non-phone devices you’re adding to your mobile account.
• The plan you choose. Connected device plans differ in monthly data amounts and features (i.e., streaming speed, 5G Ultra Wideband).

To get started, visit our connected device plans page to view plan options for your device. Choose Shop or Bring your own to get started. Follow the steps to add a plan and device to your account.

Note: When you have a shared data plan*, your connected devices don't need a separate plan. They can share your phone plan's monthly data amount. A $10/month line access fee is charged for each connected device that shares your monthly data. Or, you can add a monthly plan that's just for your connected device.

Each line on your account with one of these mobile phone plans can get 50% off an eligible Unlimited plan for a connected tablet, mobile hotspot device, Hum^x or smartwatch: 5G Get More or 5G Do More

If you:

• Already have a tablet, mobile hotspot device, Hum^x or smartwatch connected device plan, you automatically get the 50% off when you get an eligible Unlimited phone plan.
• Have more than 1 eligible connected device, the discount is applied to the device with the highest value.
• Change to a non-qualifying phone plan, the discount is automatically removed.
• Had Get More Unlimited* or Do More Unlimited* before 8/20/20, you're eligible to get the discount for a connected tablet plan or eligible mobile hotspot device plan only. (These plan versions appear as "Get More Unlimited" and "Do More Unlimited" in My Verizon and on your mobile bill.)

A mobile hotspot device* is a standalone device that lets you go online anywhere a mobile network is available.

Our data plans for mobile hotspot devices let your hotspot device connect through our networks to the internet. Your device can then create a secure, local Wi-Fi network that your tablets, laptops, etc., can all use to stream or game when you're traveling or on vacation. Shop for a mobile hotspot device.

• You want to be connected when you're away in an RV, motorhome or on a boat.

Hum is our all-in-one connected car system, and is an in-vehicle Wi-Fi accessory that plugs into your Onboard Diagnostic port. Hum gives you in-car help including:
