What's the Verizon 3g Network Extender for Business?
The 3G Network Extender for Business enhances indoor calling and 3G data coverage to provide better service for your Verizon mobile devices. It's an extension of our network placed directly in your office.
It's compatible with all Verizon mobile devices and works like a miniature tower. It plugs into your existing high-speed Internet connection to communicate with the Verizon network, which makes it easy to install.
Note: The 3G Network Extender for Business is not a router and therefore is not Wi-Fi capable. -
Where can I use the 3G Network Extender for Business?
The 3G Network Extender for Business works in many places within the Verizon mobile coverage area but not outside the US.
Note: The 3G Network Extender for Business can enhance your calling or 3G data coverage. It’s not designed to enhance 4G LTE data coverage. -
Does the 3G Network Extender for Business require a computer?
No, the 3G Network Extender for Business requires a broadband Internet connection, but it doesn't require a computer.

What type of Internet connection do I need for the 3G Network Extender for Business?
The 3G Network Extender for Business will work with connections that provide a minimum broadband speed of 3.5 Mbps.

Can I connect my landline phone to the 3G Network Extender for Business?
No, the 3G Network Extender for Business is only designed to work with Verizon mobile devices.

Do I have to pay additional fees to use the 3G Network Extender for Business?
No, there are no additional costs to use the 3G Network Extender for Business.

I currently have the 3G Network Extender. Can I upgrade my current device to the Network Extender for Business?
No, Network Extender devices and Network Extender for Business devices are separate products that can’t be used interchangeably. The 3G Network Extender can’t be upgraded to be used as a Network Extender for Business.
Setup

How do I know that the 3G Network Extender for Business setup and installation is complete?
You can confirm that the 3G Network Extender for Business setup is complete in either of the following ways:
- Verify that the various 3G Network Extender for Business components are functioning properly by checking that the four LED lights on the front of the device are a steady blue (the WAN light may be either steady or blinking):
PWR Power SYS System GPS GPS Signal* WAN WAN (Ethernet Connection) *It may take up to one hour to acquire a GPS signal and get a steady blue light. Turning off the 3G Network Extender for Business will restart the GPS signal process and may prolong the setup.
- Enter #48 on your mobile device and listen for this announcement: “You are on the Network Extender for Business.” This announcement verifies that the 3G Network Extender for Business is functioning properly and that your device is registered on it.
Please refer to the Quick Start Guide that came with your 3G Network Extender for Business. For additional details on device setup and troubleshooting, refer to the user guide (PDF).

Do I need to change any settings on my mobile device to connect to the 3G Network Extender for Business?
No, the 3G Network Extender for Business is compatible with all Verizon mobile devices. You don't need to change any settings on your mobile device.

Why does the 3G Network Extender for Business need to be placed near a window?
Placing the 3G Network Extender for Business close to a window will assist in acquiring a GPS signal. If the 3G Network Extender for Business can't be placed near a window or has trouble receiving a GPS signal, refer to the user guide (PDF*) for instructions on installing the external GPS antenna cable.

Do specific ports need to be enabled on my router or firewall for the 3G Network Extender for Business to work?
The 3G Network Extender for Business uses standard ports to make its connection through the Internet. It shouldn't require any special port configuration. In those rare instances in which the 3G Network Extender for Business is unable to connect to the Verizon mobile network, you may need to open ports 50, 500, 4500, 53 and 52428.
Contact your Network Administrator or the manufacturer of your switch, router and/or firewall for detailed instructions on how to open ports on your equipment. -
Can I mount the 3G Network Extender for Business on the wall or ceiling?
Yes, you’ll need to purchase a Wall and Ceiling Mount Bracket to mount the 3G Network Extender for Business. To learn how to set up the Wall and Ceiling Mount Bracket, refer to the user guide (PDF).

Can I move the 3G Network Extender for Business within my location after it has acquired a GPS signal and setup is complete?
Yes, the 3G Network Extender for Business can be moved within your location. However, the GPS signal LED must remain steady blue.

Can I cluster a Network Extender with the 3G Network Extender for Business?
No, Network Extender devices and Network Extender for Business devices aren't compatible with each other. A cluster can only include Network Extender for Business devices.
3G Network Extender - priority access

Can I manage and secure access to the 3G Network Extender for Business?
Yes, you can set the 3G Network Extender for Business for Open Access or Managed Access.
- Open Access allows any Verizon mobile device within range to use the 3G Network Extender for Business.
- Managed Access allows you to prioritize access to the 3G Network Extender for Business for up to 50 Verizon mobile callers you select. Where a compatible tower is unavailable, callers that don't appear on your Managed Access list may access the 3G Network Extender for Business when not in use by priority callers. All callers may access the 3G Network Extender for Business for emergency (E911) calls.
To create and set up a Managed Access list, follow the instructions below based on the type of account you have:
- For My Verizon or Employee liable accounts - Sign in to My Verizon to create a list online.
- For My Business or Verizon Enterprise Center (VEC) or Corporate liable accounts – Sign into your portal from the Business Portal Landing Page to create a list online.

To create and set up a Managed Access list, follow the instructions below based on the type of account you have:
- For My Verizon or Employee liable accounts – Sign in to My Verizon to create a list online.

Why does the 3G Network Extender for Business require GPS service?
The 3G Network Extender for Business uses GPS service to obtain time and the device location information. Location information is used to support Emergency (E911) service.

Is the external GPS antenna cable required to use the 3G Network Extender for Business?
No, the external GPS antenna cable is provided if you can't acquire a GPS signal with the GPS card embedded in the unit.

How do I install the external GPS antenna cable for the 3G Network Extender for Business?
Instructions are included in the user guide (PDF*).
Note: You must screw the external antenna back on and rotate it up after you complete the installation of the GPS antenna cable. -
Does GPS provide any additional services for the 3G Network Extender for Business?
No, GPS is used strictly for Emergency 911 services. It doesn't do any of the following:
- Provide location-based services like Google Maps
- Track you within your office

How do I know if I'm connected to the 3G Network Extender for Business network?
You can verify that you're connected to the 3G Network Extender for Business network by either of the following two ways:
- Call #48 and you'll hear an audio announcement stating your device’s connection to the 3G Network Extender for Business.
- Listen for a short double tone on your device whenever making or receiving a call.
Note: Some devices have a visual indicator of its connection to the 3G Network Extender for Business.

Will my call be dropped when I move from the 3G Network Extender for Business coverage area to an outside area?
No, your call will continue uninterrupted when you move outside of the 3G Network Extender for Business coverage area if your device receives a sufficient signal from the nearest compatible tower.

Will a call placed outside the coverage area transfer to the 3G Network Extender for Business network?
No, calls initiated outside the 3G Network Extender for Business coverage area aren't transferred when entering the range of the 3G Network Extender for Business network. You'll need to end the current call to connect to the 3G Network Extender for Business.

Will my mobile device pick up the 3G Network Extender for Business network or the Verizon mobile network based on signal strength?
Your device will automatically connect to the network with the best signal.
If your device is registered with the 3G Network Extender for Business and is within its coverage area when you initiate or receive a call, your device will use the 3G Network Extender for Business network.
Note: If you move beyond the 3G Network Extender for Business coverage area, your call will seamlessly transfer to the Verizon mobile network if your device receives a sufficient signal from the nearest compatible tower.
If your device is registered with the Verizon mobile network when you initiate or receive a call, it will use the Verizon mobile network. -
Will the 3G Network Extender for Business affect the number of bars that appear on my mobile device?
Yes, once your device has registered with the 3G Network Extender for Business, you'll notice the number of bars for the 1X icon and EV icon may increase.

Can I take the 3G Network Extender for Business with me when I travel?
Yes. If there's a compatible broadband Internet connection and you’re traveling within the US, the 3G Network Extender for Business may work there.

Can I make international calls with the 3G Network Extender for Business?
Yes, you can place and receive international calls while connected to the 3G Network Extender for Business. However, you’ll still be billed for international calls according to your plan.

When connected to the 3G Network Extender for Business, your device may experience less drain on its battery.

Will using the 3G Network Extender for Business affect my Internet broadband performance?

Can I use Directory Assistance (411 Search) with the 3G Network Extender for Business?
Yes, 411 Search is available when calling inside the 3G Network Extender for Business coverage area. Calls are billed at standard 411 Search rates.

Yes, with the 3G Network Extender for Business you can expand your coverage capacity by using more than one device at the same location. For more information, refer to the guidelines provided in the user guide (PDF*).

Will users of the 3G Network Extender for Business be able to intercept or listen into each other’s conversations?
No, all calls using the 3G Network Extender for Business are private and secure for all callers (even those not on the Managed Access list). Callers using the Network Extender for Business benefit from the same security and privacy as all other users of the Verizon mobile network.
Troubleshooting

I’m receiving an “All Circuits Busy” message when I try to make a call using the 3G Network Extender for Business. What does this mean?
The "All Circuits Busy" message means that all six available channels on the 3G Network Extender for Business are in use. We recommend that you set up your Managed Access list to provide priority access to your company users.

The 3G Network Extender for Business is taking a long time to provide connectivity. Why?
The 3G Network Extender for Business can take up to 60 minutes to become operational. If GPS signals are weak and the unit isn't positioned optimally, GPS acquisition may take longer. For more information about setting up the 3G Network Extender for Business, refer to the user guide (PDF*).

I can’t find a window nearby for the 3G Network Extender for Business GPS antenna cable. What should I do?
A window for the GPS antenna cable is required. Please refer to the External GPS Antenna section on page 20 of the user guide (PDF*).
If you're having difficulty accessing a window, you may need to use the extended GPS cable or order the 20 –ft. cable. You can purchase additional GPS cables through your business representative or by contacting one of our representatives by clicking the Chat with us button at the bottom right corner of this page. -
I assigned the 3G Network Extender for Business IP address incorrectly, and now I can’t reach my device. What should I do?
For steps on how to recover the device, please refer to the Reset Tool section on page 18 of the user guide (PDF*).
Note: The default IP address of the device is 192.168.1.10 when a DHCP address isn't assigned or the device has been misconfigured. -
Calls I make using the 3G Network Extender for Business sound choppy. What should I do?
Make sure that your Internet connection supports at least 3.5 Mbps. Less than 3.5 Mbps will impact your call quality and data speed.
To verify your Internet connection capabilities, please contact your IT administrator. -
What happens to the 3G Network Extender for Business if I lose my connection to the Internet?
The 3G Network Extender for Business requires an active broadband Internet connection. You won't be able to use the 3G Network Extender for Business until your Internet connection is restored. When your Internet connection is restored, the 3G Network Extender for Business will reestablish its connection.
